Itinerary in Details

Day 1: Phnom Penh arrival

Warmly welcome upon arrival in Phnom Penh. Your guide and driver will meet you at the airport for a transfer to your hotel. Free. At leisure. Afternoon you discover the Phnom Penh capital and visit the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda which is located within the Royal Palace complex. Continue to visit the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21) and Wat Phnom. Welcome dinner at a local restaurant before you return to your hotel. Overnight at a hotel in Phnom Penh 

 

Day 1: Phnom Penh arrival

Day 2: Phnom Penh- Siem Reap by car (B)

In the morning, your driver picks you up from the hotel (without a guide) and transfers you to Siem Reap. It will take you 6 hours on a 314-km road. On the way, the driver will stop you to visit the Spider Market in Skuon, a local restaurant for lunch at Kampong Thom. After lunch, continue to drive to Siem Reap with one more stop to visit the ancient bridge from the 12th century called Naga Bride. Arriving in Siem Reap around 3 pm, check-in and free at leisure. 

At around 05:30 pm, depart by tuk-tuk with your guide (~ 1.5 - 2 hours) for an orientation tour around the town. You will rejoin your tuk-tuk onto Angkor Kyung Yu Road, otherwise known as Road 60 where busy street food stalls well away from the cozy tourist bars line up along the streets. This area is hugely popular with local families who come out to dine in the early evening; it’s a real feast of the senses. You will see a range of exotic fruits, grilled meats, and if you’re brave enough fried insects. Cambodians love to eat and virtually anything is on the menu. Your guide will show you how to eat all kinds of bugs, large and small- don’t worry you don’t have to try, but you might be surprised and have a new favorite snack and fruits you never knew existed!  Afterward, your tuk-tuk will take you to one of the small local restaurants where you can meet the owner (Mr. Him and his family) who will serve you great Cambodian food with Khmer Whiskey and local beer. 

Continue to ride our tuk-tuk, you will make several stops around the town as well as take a walk through the alleys and side streets around the Old Market area. Enjoy one glass of cocktail or soft drink at the pub street before taking you back to the hotel.

Day 2: Phnom Penh- Siem Reap by car (B)

Day 3: Phnom Kram Sunrise & Phnom Bakheng Sunset (B)

Early wake up in the morning for a transfer to Phnom Kram (13 km south of Siem Reap), we climb up the hill to view the sunrise over the rice paddies and the floating village of Tonle Sap Lake and enjoy the picnic breakfast on the hill of Phnom Kram.

 

After breakfast, take the boat ride visiting the Chong Kneas Floating Village on Tonle Sap Lake and take a boat trip to see the daily life in the village. The natural wonder of Tonle Sap offers an insight into the old tradition of riparian life and the natural splendor of the countryside and is followed by an Artisan D'angkor workshop. Return to the hotel for relaxation

 

At 2 pm, pick up from the hotel visit to Angkor National Museum where all the Cambodian artifacts are, and Wat Thmei which was one of the Killing Fields in the Khmer Regime (1975-79). Heading to visit Phnom Bakheng which is a Hindu and Buddhist temple in the form of a temple mountain. Dedicated to Shiva, it was built at the end of the 9th century, during the reign of King Yasovarman. Enjoy the sunset from Bakheng Hill to have a spectacular view of the Western Baray and Angkor Wat.

Today you visit the ancient capital of Angkor Thom including the South Gate with its huge statues, the Bayon temple with its 54 towers decorated with over 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara), the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, the Elephant Terrace, and the Terrace of the Leper King, visit Preah Khan Temple. Home-make lunch at the local house (Mr. Peanut and his wife, Mrs. Gin living in a small house with a peaceful atmosphere and green garden will serve you a great lunch and share their life story during the Khmer Rouge). 

Afternoon you continue to visit Ta Prohm (the jungle temple) and visit Angkor Wat, the most famous temple of the Angkor complex. with its five towers symbolizing Meru’s five peaks. Return to hotel for relaxation, overnight at hotel in Siem Reap

Day 4: Angkor Complex (B)

Day 5: Phnom Kulen (B)

Located 40 km north of Angkor Wat, the Phnom Kulen mountain range provides Siem Reap with water and dominates the skyline of the flat plains surrounding it. Although the highest peak of the mountain range lies at only 487m, Phnom Kulen has much to offer visitors. The Cambodian people regard the site as the birthplace of the ancient Khmer Empire. King Jayavarman II claimed independence from Java there in 802 A.D. Travel in the morning by car through the countryside to Phnom Kulen and start the rather steep climb up by car. On top of the mountain, you will visit a modern-style pagoda that offers stunning views over the Angkor area. Visit the eight-meter-tall statue of a reclining Buddha and wash your hands at the Linga statue to purify your mind and body. Continue to visit the River of One Thousand Lingas and the magnificent waterfall close to it. Take a refreshing swim in the stream and pool of the waterfall and enjoy a picnic lunch served in a natural setting. Returning to Siem Reap in the late afternoon, on the way we will stop to visit the locals doing Sugar Palm in Preah Dak Village. Overnight at a hotel in Siem Reap

Day 5: Phnom Kulen (B)

Breakfast at the hotel. Free until transfer to the airport for departure to Bangkok. Upon arrival pick up and transfer you to hotel in Bangkok for your overnight

After breakfast you are met by your guide at the hotel ready to venture out into the cultural city. The first stop of the day is Wat Po which houses a giant reclining Buddha, the largest one in the world. Also you may have a chance to witness the monks early morning chanting ritual. After touring the grounds of the temple, you will be transferred to the nearby grandiose Grand Palace, Bangkok's must-see. This extraordinary construction was designed to be the royal family's residence. Over the years, many affiliated buildings have been added, among which, the most famous one is Wat Phra Kaew housing the precious emerald Buddha.

After enjoying the sumptuous Thai lunch at the riverside Supatra River House.

Then, a Long-tailed boat whisks you down the Chao Phraya River and canals (klongs) of Thonburi – the original site where Bangkok was founded, before King Rama I moved the capital's epicenter across the river to the Rattanakosin Island.

Just across the river from Bangkok, the khlongs of Thonburi offer a glimpse into a slower pace of life. The long-tailed boat will take you into Bangkok Yai canal to see the way of life. Then we will stop by the Klong Bang Luang community along the canal which brings back a former Baan Silapin (The House of Artist) to maintain the memories of the past and traditional ways of life. The Canal has been restored into a cultural tourist area, which can be seen from the architecture, habitation, ancient remains, and former community of residents living there. A traditional Thai puppet performance comes next (if available). 

Arrive at the Wat Arun and have a visit before getting back to the hotel. Wat Arun is also called the Temple of Dawn, which offers an opportunity of climbing up the stupa and admiring the great panorama view of the Chao Phraya.

Day 7: Bangkok day tour with Wat Phra Kaew (B)

Day 8: Bangkok – Train market – Floating market – Kanchanaburi (B)

07.30. Departure from the hotel by car from Bangkok to the "garden province" of Samut Songhkhram, in the delta area of ​​the Mae Klong river. Visit the single national market (the train market) along the railroad tracks, where a variety of goods are sold and the train travels bringing people to the market. Continue to Damnoen Saduak, the most colorful floating market in the Kingdom. Enjoy the wonderful views along the way and witness the daily activities of Thais living on the canals selling their fresh fruit and vegetables from the farms of the surrounding villages. Take a short pedal boat ride through the canals to get the feeling of closure of the local people.

Then, depart for Kanchanaburi for more than 2 hours by road. Upon arrival, visit the WWII memorial including the Jeath War Museum, Cemetery. 

Lunch at the local restaurant next to River Kwai Bridge. 

Kwai River Bridge: known to the world through several films and books, it is still used today. Main attraction, the river is dotted with restaurants, souvenir shops and jewelry stores. A steam locomotive from the era of the Second World War and an astonishing hybrid car / wagon vehicle from the same period are part of a small Railway Museum on the edge of the bridge. 

We will take a 30 minute train to enjoy the beautiful view from the train along the river. This is one of Southeast Asia's historic railways, the remaining part of the "Death Railway", departing from the provincial capital to Ban Kao. Then, transfer to the hotel for check-in.

Day 8: Bangkok – Train market – Floating market – Kanchanaburi (B)

Day 9: Kanchanaburi – Ayutthaya - Uthai Thani (B)

After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, you will be collected by the tour guide and set out for an excursion to Ayutthaya featuring a selection of historical temples and ruins. The delicate candy floss roti awaits you when you have a stop at the historical park. A local house invites your visit to appreciate the production of the exquisite handicrafts. A local market visit follows.

After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, board a long-tail boat for a ride to the elegant Bang Pa-In Summer Palace with mixed architectural design - Thai, Chinese and European. Proceed to Uthai Thani and settle down in the local hotel.

Day 9: Kanchanaburi – Ayutthaya - Uthai Thani (B)

Day 10: Uthai Thani – Sukhothai (B)

Following a delicious breakfast, you will head up the mountain to visit Wat Sangkat Rattana Khiri getting an amazing panorama view of the area. Continue to travel to see the Crystal and Golden Halls of Wat Tha Sung. After having lunch on the rice barge while cruising along the Sakraekrang River, you will turn to the magnificent Wat Mahathat, the most famous temple of the city. Head towards Sukhothai and check in at the local hotel.

Day 10: Uthai Thani – Sukhothai (B)

After breakfast you will be met by your guide at your hotel ready to explore the Ramkamhaeng National museum where you learn more about the area's history. A visit to the Sukhothai Historical Park follows. It is an important place for local people, where they celebrate the Loi Krathong Festival every November on the full moon. Lunch is on your own choices. See a selection of historical ruins and remnants to complete your trip.

Day 12: Sukhothai – Si Satchanalai – Chiang Mai (B)

Start the day with a wholesome breakfast before venturing out by private car to Si Satchanalai Historical Park that lies on the bank of the Yom River. The natural park is less touristy, which is better for you to have some free time of cycling and temple exploring around. After having lunch at a local restaurant, you will be led to the weaving village at Baan Haad Siew. Local aborigines are Thai Puan, migrated from Lao for many years. Continue the venture to Chiang Mai for around 3.5 hours along the countryside.

Day 12: Sukhothai – Si Satchanalai – Chiang Mai (B)

Day 13: Chiang Mai – Mae Ping River cruise – City temple tour (B)

In the morning, you will set out to a local farmhouse in Mae Rim on the outskirts of the city, where you will have a leisurely walk. Take a long-tail boat for a short cruise trip along the Mae Ping River sampling wooden houses and modern residences on the banks. After leaving the boat, you will walk for around 10 minutes to the Waroros fresh food market exploring the Northern Thai way of life. Reach Wat Phra Singh, the largest temple in Chiang Mai, on a trishaw passing by the City Wall. A local specialty lunch "Khao Soy" awaits you at a local popular restaurant.

Following the morning activities, continue your exploration to the ancient city in the afternoon. Pay a visit to the Wat Suan Dok and the historic Jed Yod temple and drive up the mountain by Songtaew to the Chang Khien Coffee Research Project where you can leisurely enjoy a cup of the local Arabica. Transfer to the white Hmong village of Chang Khien, where you may find the inhabitants reserving their traditional culture by wearing typical hill tribe clothes with around 500 years history. The last stop is Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, the most significant temple in Chiang Mai. The temple is located on the top of the mountain, and there are 300 stairs to climb with two dragons railing rising along both sides. A breathtaking bird view of the area will be revealed in front of you when you get to the top, which will be an unforgettable experience during your Thailand itinerary for 12 days.

08:30                    : Drive approximately 1.5 hours South of Chiang Mai through rolling hills, forest, and local farming areas.

10:30                    : Arrive at the Sanctuary. Meet your guide and walk for 10-15 minutes through the Jungle to the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary. Change into traditional Karen clothing. Enjoy an introductory lesson about elephant anatomy, history, and behavior.

11:00                    : Meet the elephants. Feed, interact, and play with the elephants in a natural environment as you learn about their behavior and history. Take photos with the elephants.

12:00                    : Enjoy a lunch of traditional Thai food and fresh fruit.

13:00                    : Learn how to make herbal medicine balls, feed the Elephants and then walk with the elephants to the river. Bathe and brush the elephants.

14:00                    : Join the elephants for a therapeutic mud spa. Swim in the river and take photos with the elephants.

15:00                    : Change clothes and say good bye to the elephants

15:30                    : Leave the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary and drive approximately 1.5 hours to Chiang Mai.

In the morning, you will leave Chiang Mai and drive eastwards to Mae Kampong Village. With an altitude of around 1300 meters, the village enjoys a cool climate all the year round. En route, stop at a local market to select the ingredients by yourself for your lunch, which will be a quite interesting experience. Upon arrival, have a walk through the woods and forests to a waterfall for a visit. Then back to the village to meet with some unadorned villagers and prepare lunch with your host family. Have a short rest before venturing out to Chiang Rai through the mountains for around 2.5 hours, another highlight destination of your 12 days Thailand tour.

Set out to Mae Sai, the northernmost town of Thailand and place into the unparalleled mountain scenery along the way. Visit the bustling Burmese border market, the big Buddha-image on the bank of the river and continue to Sop Ruak for exploration of the Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Burma and Laos meet. Visit the Hall of Opium Museum (closed on Monday), which shows you a comprehensive and informative history of opium and the effects over centuries of the opium trade on the local area. Transfer to Chiang Saen, the heart of the Golden Triangle. Have a walk to its temples and ruins and take a boat ride along the irrefutable Mekong River. Drive back to your hotel in the last afternoon.
